Understanding Human Trafficking
It is a crime.
- Sex-trafficking is a crime of commercial and sexual exploitation that involves the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of people through force, fraud, or deception.
- This can occur when a trafficker uses force, fraud, or coercion to compel someone to engage in commercial sex.
- Children are used for explicit sex acts of any kind, recruiting other victims, drug couriering, organ harvesting, laboratory testing, and other atrocities.
Behavior of Being Trafficked
- Little to no eye contact
- Poor mental health
- Is fearful, anxious, submissive, tense, depressed, or nervous/paranoid
- Lack of control
- Loss of sense of time
- Not allowed to speak for themselves
- Numerous inconsistencies
Appearance of Being Trafficked
- No eye contact
- Poor health care
- Look like they are being controlled with whom they are with
- Appears malnourished
- Shows signs of physical and/sexual abuse, physical restraint, confinement, or torture
